Nervous System Regulation: Sway

This one is exactly as it sounds. Sitting or standing, place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly. Now sway to the right and left as though you’re soothing a small child. ***If at any time this movement feels uncomfortable, please stop.

Rain Meditation (13 mins)

Sitting or lying down. This meditation is adapted from Tara Brach’s version of RAIN. You will be asked to Recognize, Allow, Investigate (with gentleness), and Nurture a difficult emotion. RAIN promotes self-acceptance and self-compassion.

Nervous System Regulation: Breathing

You hold your breath. I know you do because I do it too when I’m stressed or anxious. This video will use your breathe to trace your hand. It’s relaxing, soothing, and oh so very intentionally grounding.

Mountain Meditation (15 mins)

Sit back or lie down. I have a love/ugh relationship with this meditation. Which is exactly why I recorded and included it here. Be the mountain and let me know what you think.

Nervous System Regulation: Facial Massage

Enjoy this gentle facial massage, designed to help calm your nervous system. ***If at any time this massage feels uncomfortable, please stop.

Helpful Tips & Skills

  • Anxiety Attacks

Applying a cold pack or heat pack to the back of your neck can help you calm if you’re experiencing an anxiety attack.

  • Panic Attacks

Tossing a ball up in the air and catching it will sometimes halt a panic attack. Pick a soft ball or pair of socks and don’t throw it too high.

  • Breathe

Anxiety, overwhelm, stress (this list goes on) can cause you to unintentionally hold your breath. Throughout the day, take a moment to intentionally breathe. One deep breath in through your nose. One exhale or sigh out of your mouth.

  • Mindfulness

The busyness of life can create its own feeling of anxiety and stress. When this happens, notice what’s around you.

Name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel (like the breeze on your face), 3 things you can hear, 2 things you smell, and 1 thing you can taste.

  • Communication

Try I-statements. When I hear you say (repeat what you heard as exactly as possible). I make up the story that (what are you telling yourself about what you heard). And then I feel (what are you feeling). What I’d really like is (say what you’d really like).

  • Self-compassion

    * Place one hand on your heart and send yourself love. You may even say I love you.

**Bonus points if you can look at yourself in the mirror while telling yourself, I love you.

Noticing

Noticing is the first step when you want to move in a different direction. It doesn’t matter if you call it growth or change or something else all together. It’s a mindful way of stepping out of autopilot and into your life.

The stories we tell ourselves

We are meaning making machines. Always filling in the gaps and creating stories about ourselves and other people.

Case in point, that car that pulled out in front of you earlier today? What story did you make up about that person?

How about the story you told yourself about the person holding up the line at the self-checkout?

Or the story you created about yourself when you accidentally hit REPLY ALL instead of replying to that one person?

In this video, I’ll talk about those stories…

COMING SOON!

What are you believing?

I call it meaning-making. What are you telling yourself about yourself when you live in this story? What’s this story’s significance? Is it the I’m not good enough belief? I can’t depend on anyone? If I want it done the right way, then I have to do it? At its core, I want you to think about the message you’re receiving.
